The Best Place For a Burger and a Beer

A long time local favourite, Calm Café in Freshwater is now open for dinner – the ideal spot for a burger and a beer as you step off the beach.

Nestled by Freshwater Beach, this little hideout is open later from Thursday to Sunday, so you can enjoy the sun-drenched balcony even more often.

An extensive lunch and dinner menu includes an array of burgers plus other dishes including fish and chips, Portuguese chicken salad and a crispy fish burrito.

Owner Cedric La Page has created a burger aptly nicknamed The Controversial. This grilled Haloumi master-piece comes with an added option of crispy bacon -
if you like.

And it’s not the only one, as you are completely spoiled for burger choice. There is also the Blue Cheese & Bacon Burger, Beef Burger, Beef Burger with the lot, Lamb Burger and Falafel Burger.

On Thursdays there is a special all night deal – a burger, chips and a wine or beer for just $18, with a Happy hour will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 5pm to 6pm - beer at $5.50, wine at $5.5 and cocktails $12. Casual dining at it’s best and great value too.

The café stocks the popular Dad & Dave’s beer range, the best way to quench your thirst on a balmy summer evening. So kick back with a locally brewed beer and delicious freshly-made burger. Life doesn’t get much better.

Dad & Dave's Beer

This increasingly popular beer is the brew of choice for many on the Northern Beaches.
Former chef Dave Dumay and his dad John, an academic at Macquarie University, have perfected their craft and are fast becoming the go-to beer in cafés, bars and restaurants on the peninsula.

They began brewing ‘seriously’ in 2011, with a first run of # 1 Pale Ale, and haven’t really looked back since.

Dad & Dave’s is now their biggest selling beer. The core Dad & Dave’s range is the #1 Pale Ale, #2 Belgian IPA, #3 Dad’s Pils and the #4 Dave’s Gold, the last one is served in a can.
It has been a rapid rise, which now sees the duo establishing their own specialist brewery in

Chard Road, Brookvale, for people to sample and buy their beer.
As beer drinkers opt for quality over quantity, it seems Dad & Dave’s will continue to thrive with their reach extending beyond the Northern Beaches.
