Return, Recycle & Earn

Northern Beaches locals can now receive a 10-cent refund for every drink container returned to over-the-counter collection points across the peninsula.

On Friday December 1, a number of local Northern Beaches businesses will act as collection points for recyclable drink containers, as part of the NSW Government’s container deposit scheme, Return and Earn.

Local residents will be able to return eligible containers to participating businesses from Fairlight to Freshwater and receive a 10-cent cash refund.

Businesses partnering with the scheme for the launch include:

  • Manly Mini Market (77 Addison Rd, Manly)
  • Press Ink Pty Ltd (145 Sydney Rd, Fairlight)
  • Stillitano's Corner Manly (129 Pittwater Rd, Manly)
  • Polar Bar (87 Harbord Road, Freshwater)
  • Hangi Jax Manly Café (329 Condamine St, Manly Vale)

The initiative is designed to reduce the 160 million recyclable drink containers that end up as litter in NSW. Containers need to be empty, uncrushed, unbroken and have the original labels attached.

The state-wide network of collection points will include reverse vending machines, over-the-counter collection points such as selected cafés, service stations, small grocers and newsagencies, and automated depots for large volumes of drink containers.

“This is great news for local residents and charities who can also participate in the program to raise funds,” says Manly MP James Griffin.
