Opal Cards on Manly Fast Ferries
OpalPay is now available on the Manly to Circular Quay Fast Ferry service and will be available on the Taronga Zoo, Rose Bay and Watsons Bay services from February 4.
Opal cards can be used on the Fast Ferry’s OpalPay system – although this is a different payment system to that used by Opal.
Opal cards can be used on both systems but different pricing structures, terms and conditions apply to each.
Opal is used by Government transport services. OpalPay is used by private transport operators. Both are accessed by Opal cards.
On OpalPay, none of the Opal card benefits apply: No concession card discounts are offered, customers can use their Opal concession card on the system but they will be charged the full adult fare. No Sunday Funday $2.60 all day unlimited travel either.
On Manly Fast Ferry to Circular Quay an OpalPay Adult fare is $9.10 and a child fare is $5.40. The OpalPay individual transaction limit is $25, The daily limit is $30 and the weekly limit $200.
Single tickets purchased through Opal machines cannot be used on OpalPay, only reloadable cards are acknowledged on the My Fast Ferry OpalPay system.
The Fast Ferry operates an Opal Card tap system which is different to the Opal tap-on tap-off machines on government transport modes. On the Manly Fast Ferry system, customers only need to tap on, no tap off is required as only single trip fares are charged which are deducted from the card at the time of entry.
Regular travellers, who use the Manly to Circular Quay service more often, are advised to download the free MyFastFerry app to buy discounted bulk purchase tickets.
Manly Fast Ferry fares from January 1, 2018 are:
- adult single ticket will increase from $8.70 to $9.10
- child single ticket will increase from $5.20 to $5.40
