Event organisers have confirmed the Australian Open of Surfing will not go ahead next year.

A statement on Facebook declared, “The Australian Open of Surfing will not take place in 2018. IMG and our supporting partner Destination NSW have enjoyed bringing this world-class event to the iconic shores of Manly Beach for the past five years and thank the Manly community and everyone involved in the event for their support.

“IMG remains committed to action sports and we look forward to sharing more about our plans for this event in the future.”

On Twitter, the AOS stated "The @AUSOpenofSurf will not take place in 2018. Thank you to all involved in the event for your support."

The event has been running annually since 2012, with the local community and area benefitting greatly through increased spending, tourism, events and entertainment.

Manly MP James Griffin has vowed to fight for the return of the event to Manly in the future.
