Year 9, Balgowlah Boys
When did you start surfing? When I was about eight-years-old.
Why - who else in your family surfs? My Dad surfs and sometimes my sisters surf, most of our holidays have always been somewhere where there’s surf.
What's your favourite home break and then favourite surf break overseas or elsewhere in Australia? At home it’s North Steyne and I love Raglan, in New Zealand.
What are your most memorable wins in comps? At Port Stephens for a Surfarama.
Are you natural or goofy? I’m Goofy.
Describe your style? Free flowing and I try to go to the air.
What board are you riding or boards? A 5’3 by 17’ 3/8 by 2.
What do you like best about surfing? I like the fact every wave is different, no wave is the same, so every wave feels different.
You're taking part in the Vissla competition – what are you hoping for? I am surfing against guys a lot older than me but I would love to go well and progress as far as I can. It’s a great opportunity and I’m very thankful to Vissla and Surfing NSW for the wildcard.
Is it fun as it's so close to home or more nerve wracking? It’s fun because I am surfing my home break where I grew up with all my friends, and it’s great not having to travel to a comp.
Are you doing any special preparations? I am surfing as much as I can and I am training with my coach Beau Mitchell.
Who are your favourite surfers/idols? Mick Fanning and Jordy Smith.
Who are your sponsors? Zero One wetsuits, Globe, MG Surfboards, Creatures of Leisure, Aloha Manly Style, Cafeina Espresso, 1 Love Surfing.
What would you like to do with surfing? I would love to make a career out of it.
Do you see a career in surfing – if so what? Yes, for sure, it’s something I love doing and it would be doing something you love as a job. If I could do that it’d be great.
Will you always surf? Yes, for sure.
What other sports do you like? Skating and rugby.
What else would you like to do as a career if not surfing? I’m not too sure, maybe a surf coach.
Advice for groms coming up at the moment? Surf bad and good conditions and surf with better surfers to push yourself.
