Champion Roaster on the Beaches

The coffee focused Northern Beaches is home to specialty cafés offering much more than a latte or a flat white. But there is also increasing demand by coffee drinkers for a quality brew they can enjoy at home. And with champion roasters Danes on the doorstep in Brookvale, this need can be fully satisfied.

Australia’s top, award-winning Danes Specialty Coffee is right here on the peninsula and has been since 1994. Danes took the title of Australian Champion Roaster at this year’s Australian International Coffee Awards (AICA) international coffee roasting competition.

They also won Champion Milk Based coffee for the Mocha Gold blend and 2018 Champion Cold Brew for their Ethiopia Kochere plus a number of gold, silver and bronze medals. Their coffee is in cafés and homes across the Northern Beaches, Sydney, NSW and even further afield, with the team at Danes attributing their success to the fact their coffee is all about the flavour.

“Our Mission is to give our consumers a choice to define their flavour. We want to show them how coffee flavours can vary – through the expression of sweetness, aroma, body and finish - and to help them define their favourite flavour – regardless of whether they drink their coffee black or white,” explains Danes Managing Director, Paul Jackson.

He says that flavour is the focus of everything they do – from sourcing beans from farms across the world, to cupping, roasting, serving and training home enthusiasts, professional baristas and café owners; all in the name of producing the very best coffee. Danes has also found a way to separate and define different flavours so customers can easily identify their preferences.

“We have introduced a language on our packaging so we can explain the flavours involved by creating different tribes like the ‘chocolate and caramel’, ‘spice and nuts’ and ‘fruits and berries’ with some coffees having all three while others might just be dominated by one of these tribes,” adds Paul.

He says by creating this language for the consumers, they are better able to make a selection based on the tastes they enjoy and still experiment with new and varied flavours.

Paul says the success of the specialty coffee company is because everyone lives and breathes coffee with the result being an award-winning range of blends and single origins.

Danes has its own Nitro coffee brewed with the multi award-winning Four Elements. This silky smooth and clean way to experience coffee is perfect for the warmer months as a fast and convenient cold brew option, served on tap.
