COVERED. Spring Launch - Showcasing Collaroy
Clients and contributors turned out to help COVERED. celebrate the launch of the Spring Edition of Northern Beaches COVERED. Magazine.
The event held last week included a tour of ‘Sargood on Collaroy’, a world first resort for people with spinal cord injuries, and later a launch party at The Beach Club Collaroy.
The tour of Sargood on Collaroy included access to the lounge rooms and suites, where windows with fabulous sea views have been adjusted to be the perfect height for those in wheelchairs.
There was also a visit to the kitchens, fitted with adjustable appliances, and a tour of the specialised gym overlooking Collaroy Beach. The gym boasts an array of state-of-the art equipment designed to help those with spinal cord injuries get the most out of their workout and stay at Sargood.
Staff showed the group throughout the resort, inviting guests, locals and founders to share why they love the specialised centre and describing the care and research that has gone into the development.
Darren Houghton, who lives on the Northern Beaches, was left an ‘incomplete quadriplegic’ after he fell from a balcony at his home in Fairlight, in December 2014 and broke his neck. Doctors believed he would be paralysed but he has regained limited movement in his legs although his right arm remains paralysed.
“Before this was built I was mostly at home all the time, whereas now I can get down and I can can use the gym, I can go surfing, with a bit of help, cycling and just interacting with people. It’s been a complete life changer,” he explains.
Sargood on Collaroy is a space for the community, where local businesses can host meetings and conferences at the resort and enjoy idyllic views overlooking Collaroy Beach and up the peninsula.
The COVERED. team and partners later enjoyed celebratory drinks and canapés at The Beach Club, a keen supporter of Sargood on Collaroy and the Spotlight on Collaroy feature in the Spring Edition of Northern Beaches COVERED. Magazine.
The night featured stories, 60-second pitches and an auction raising funds for The Sargood Foundation to empower the lives of those impacted by a spinal cord injury.
COVERED. partners joined in the fun, bidding for prizes as well as donating a number of goods to be auctioned and to raise much needed funds for the Sargood Foundation.
