Dee Why’s Bendigo Bank branch manager Paul Boykos has more than 20 years experience in finance and strong connections to the local area.

How long have you been at Dee Why branch?
I’ve been manager at Dee Why for about 18 months and before that was manager of Willoughby, where I had greater loan growth than Dee Why, one of the biggest branches in Sydney.

Are you from the area?
I have grown up on the beaches in Collaroy Plateau and Cromer and have lived at Elanora and North Narrabeen. I love the relaxed, laid back beaches environment.

Are you a member of any sporting or community groups?
I am coach and player at Forest Killarney Football Club and coach my son’s team at Pittwater RSL Football club.  Both are customers of my branch.

Does Bendigo deliberately retain a very personalised approach?
Yes, we have given over $165 million back to the local community via funding for community centres, sponsorships or community causes. We feel we are Australia’s community bank of choice.

Do you feel being a part of the community is fundamental to Bendigo’s approach?
We aim to be Australia’s most customer connected bank, and we are not owned by any of the ‘Big Four’ Banks – so we remain truly individual; we are large, yet nimble.

What are the main financial challenges faced by people in this area?
I believe in saving people money on their mortgage – it really does pay off to have a local old fashioned bank manager to personally manage your accounts, loans and savings.

How do you differ from competitors?
I can assess and approve the finance applications myself on
site, thus cutting out ‘the middle man’ or annoying 1800 or 1300 numbers - our interest rates are among the market’s lowest.

Is it important to have a presence in the town centre?
Definitely, I didn’t want to move further away from our core customer base, of Manly to Palm Beach. We have only moved 30 metres away, at 3 Oaks Avenue, Dee Why, on the corner of Pittwater Road and Oaks Ave.
