Sister Act Leads To Business Harmony

Inspire Yoga and Wellbeing studio in Dee Why is owned and run by two sisters. Yoga teacher Liama Aesha and physiotherapist Leanne Hughes aim to bring bodies and minds back to balance.

Running a business together was always a goal for Liama and Leanne and the complimentary work they do made it an easy match.

The yoga side of the business offers a range of classes designed to suit all tastes with Liama a teacher in Vinyasa Flow, Acro Yoga plus family and therapeutic yoga, as well as running yoga classes for children.

She says it’s the more restorative yoga that has proved popular. “It’s been interesting that the gentle classes and the ones about calming the mind and relaxation are the most popular,” she explains.

The studio also offers Pilates classes and Liama works as a yoga therapist doing one-on-one sessions with people suffering from cancer and mental health issues like anxiety and depression.

Sister Leanne has been a physiotherapist for more than 16 years and loves the space and energy of their space.

“The studio is at its best when we are both working there. The energy is healing and very vibrant and we attract most people then,” she explains.

At times Leanne works with some of the yoga students to help improve or resolve issues with their practice. She also treats sport and work related injuries, as well as supporting women during pregnancy and post birth.

Leanne runs 10-week clinical Pilates programs with small groups of six or under to address specific problems, where clients set goals and work to achieving these over the course of the classes.

She runs 45-minute treatment sessions in her private room and believes the whole relaxed feel of the studio works towards helping clients resolve their issues.

“We provide a really healing space. People often walk into the studio and exhale and that’s quite rare especially when you are visiting a physiotherapist.”

The sisters both have young children and support each other in helping out with family as well as at work - although they are enjoying the experience so much that’s hardly the word they’d use!
