Market Madness on the Beaches
More than a shopping experience a market is a community event complete with activities, entertainment, great food and beverages as well as an array of shopping. Well that is what the good ones offer.
The Northern Beaches offers a multitude of markets on various dates where shopping is really a hands on experience.
COVERED. went on a tour of what is on offer for market devotees.
The Beaches Market is held each Friday between 8am and 1pm at Pittwater Rugby Park in Warriewood. It started with the motto ‘Fruit and Veg are Fresher on Fridays’ and say it still holds true.
There are more than 100 stalls leaving plenty of room for parking and access for both stallholders and customers. There is friendly buzz with people treating a trip there like a day out.
And it has everything available to ensure this is the case, form great food. As well as shopping you can enjoy coffee and juices, an array of quality food produce, have a massage, go to the petting zoo with the kids and …
Phil, who runs the market explains, “We like people ideally to grow their own product or to make ii and we say no if we have the exact same product already at the market.
“The stallholders feel like it is their market and we haven’t cancelled a market since we started in November 2011 even though one time we were standing in a foot-deep of water!”
Delicatessen produce like cheeses, meats and olives nestle alongside breads and sweet treats. Fruit and vegetables, meats and fish both smoked and fresh, and homewares, clothes, jewellery and accessories are all on offer.
There is a core of stalls that return each week and then some are interchangeable to give the market a fresh feel.
