Burritos, burgers, dumplings and nachos make you think “delicious but unhealthy”, right? Does veganism and plant-based eating immediately make you think “tasteless, hard to prepare” and so forth? V-Lish is a new home delivery option that’s already going gangbusters on the beaches: COVERED. sat down with founder Vicky Harris to find out what the fuss is all about.
If you’re not a vegan, you probably know one. Cue the jokes about how if someone’s a vegan, they’ll tell you, right?. Plant-based eating is a growing movement in Australia, but amidst all the hype and myths, V-Lish is here to bring you one thing: ready to eat meals that are, quite frankly, darn delicious, and just so happen to be vegan.
The demand for vegetarian and vegan food options is high right now, with more people than ever keen to improve their wellbeing while lessening their impact on the planet. Maybe you’ve made new year’s resolutions to eat healthy. Whether you’re a vegan or not, V-Lish could be just what you’re looking for to bring some fresh inspiration to the kitchen and show you what’s possible.
“The evidence for why we should all be eating more plant-based food is overwhelming, which is why I developed V-Lish. I want to help more people see that healthy meals without animal products are not only possible but don’t compromise on flavour”, said Vicky.
“While many of our customers are long-term vegans, many actually aren’t. So, swapping a traditional take-away meal with V-Lish is a perfect introduction to plant-based cuisine for all those who want to eat less meat, fish and dairy,” she adds.
While V-Lish is a relatively new venture, launching mid 2018, Vicky’s experience with food catering goes way back, being also the owner of Catering Northern Beaches now for almost 20 years. However, prior to launching V-Lish she did undertake specialised training in plant-based cooking with world leading chefs over in Mallorca, Spain.
Under Vicky’s direction, the V-Lish kitchen is now headed up by innovative young local chefs Tom Millar and Jack Croft, who have been chuffed to see their healthy fast-food already become a favourite on the beaches. Perfect for nights when you’re too tired to cook but don’t want to resort to junk-food, the multicultural influenced plant-based menu also features local ingredients and has been specifically designed to tantalise the tastebuds of any meat-loving foodie, so there really isn’t any excuse not to eat well this year.
With a dish to delight everyone in the whole family (all on just the one order), choose from the White Miso and Mushroom Pasta, famous V-Burger, Mexican Burrito, Indian Style Curry, Shitake and Shallot Dumplings, and the ever-popular Potato Tortillas – plus many more delicious options. The packaging is all eco-friendly too.
At the moment V-Lish delivery orders are only available to residents on Sydney’s Northern Beaches via Menulog, Uber Eats and Deliveroo, however, plans to expand to other areas could be on the cards in the near future plus an app. Anyone outside the current delivery zone can also call and arrange to pick up their meals directly from their new Brookvale kitchen. Previously in Balgowlah, their larger premises in the heart of the Brookvale foodie hub can now keep up with the growing demand for delicious vegan food on the beaches.
Additionally, V-Lish also offers a Sydney catering service for weddings, parties, corporate functions and more; and will soon be launching cooking classes and special dining events so that more Northern Beaches locals can get the inspiration and tips they need to create their own tasty plant-based meals at home.
