The SurfAid Cup is a one-day tag team style surf competition and fundraiser open to all ages.
The SurfAid Cup will be in it’s eighth year at Queenscliff Beach. Many teams are returning participants whose family come along too. It is a community event that supports SurfAid’s humanitarian programs in Indonesia. SurfAid is a registered ACNC organisation, accredited by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and works closely with the surf community in Australia with headquarters in Avalon.
A maximum of 25 teams of four surfers fundraise to participate. In the order of fundraising results, SurfAid allocates a pro/legend or local ripper.
In previous years the SurfAid Cup has attracted local Northern Beaches companies including Surfing World Magazine, Allan Hall Financial Consultants, Beecraft landscaping, The Perfect Wave, Belle Property Manly and others. Corporate representation has included BlackRock, Australian Surfing Lawyers Association, Macquarie Bank, Perpetual, Wilson Parking, Goldman Sachs, Salesforce, Citi Bank as well as creative/design companies, IT, hospitality surf industry, school groups, and surfing mums teams.
Hosted in partnership with Surfing NSW, they provide a professional team of judges and water safety personnel. SurfAid manages the participants who’ve fundraised to enter and refreshments including a complimentary breakfast BBQ, lunch by Beach Burrito, yoga, massage, and surfboard demo.
The event has been supported by some of surfing’s most iconic and recognizable legends including Tom Carroll, Shane Dorian, Mark “Occy” Occhilupo, Layne Beachley, Rob Machado, Owen Wright, Simon Anderson, Sally Fitzgibbons, Luke Egan, Laura Enever, Lisa Andersen, Joel Tudor, Strider Wasilewski, Nat Young and Taj Burrow.
