Queenscliff Beach, 2018. Daniel Parsons, Caravel Content

Queenscliff Beach, 2018. Daniel Parsons, Caravel Content

Change Creators, a local not-for-profit environmental organisation on the Northern Beaches, has come up with a fun and simple way to reduce the number of disposables – the 30-day #imaKeeper Coffee Cup Challenge

If you’re keen to take the Challenge? Just follow these three easy steps:

1.       Remember your Keep Cup every day.
2.       Post a fun photo using it and tag #imaKeeper.
3.       Follow @onemillioncoffeecups to share your ‘savings’ at the end of the 30 days.

Cafés in Manly and throughout the Northern Beaches are supporting this social movement with more than 40 cafés offering discounts of up to 70 cents per coffee to customers who bring their own cup, and some even offering additional discounts for the month of May in support of the Challenge.

If you don’t have a Keep Cup - no problem. Change Creators are selling their stylish black and white #imaKeeper branded Keep Cups in glass and plastic, at a special discounted price of $20 and $10 (normally $32 and $16).

So, start the 30-day #imaKeeper Coffee Cup Challenge now. The 30-day #imaKeeper Coffee Cup Challenge is part of the @onemillioncoffeecups project led Change Creators. This is one of a select number of great initiatives partially funded by the Northern Beaches Council and NSW Government under the Stronger Communities Fund. Project partners include Keep Cup, SO Manly and the Surfrider Foundation

Papaya Tree

Since Papaya Tree's conception almost two years ago, the band has left no venue untouched on their journey. Relentlessly playing gigs, writing songs and recording in preparation for their debut single Bamboo Schooner, set to be released in November 2017.

The boys in Papaya Tree are young, fresh and eager to please (if you'd let them).
Described as being sweeter than their namesake fruit, the six-piece came together through a number of unlikely situations, from a butcher shop to the school yard and university walls, eventually forming the full lineup from nearly every postcode in Sydney.

Due to the bands size, Papaya Tree have had the opportunity to create an eclectic mix of styles, taking elements from rock, funk, jazz and reggae to create their sound. Lacking in shame, spatial awareness and the ability to park cars, the band mates have formed a brand of music that can place a smile on the face of any listener with a performance that must be caught live.

NAIDOC Week

2018 National NAIDOC Theme: Because of her, we can!

NAIDOC Week 2018 will celebrate the invaluable contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have made – and continue to make - to our communities, our families, our rich history and to our nation.

Under the theme -Because of her, we can! - NAIDOC Week 2018 will be held nationally from Sunday 8 July and continue through to Sunday 15 July.

As pillars of our society, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have played – and continue to play - active and significant roles at the community, local, state and national levels.

As leaders, trailblazers, politicians, activists and social change advocates, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women fought and continue to fight, for justice, equal rights, our rights to country, for law and justice, access to education, employment and to maintain and celebrate our culture, language, music and art.

They continue to influence as doctors, lawyers, teachers, electricians, chefs, nurses, architects, rangers, emergency and defence personnel, writers, volunteers, chief executive officers, actors, singer songwriters, journalists, entrepreneurs, media personalities, board members, accountants, academics, sporting icons and Olympians, the list goes on.

They are our mothers, our elders, our grandmothers, our aunties, our sisters and our daughters.
