Tribal Dance Workshop with Body & Balance

Join Jill Healy-Quintard from Body and Balance for her tribal dance workshop.

Tribal Dance is a visual and physical journey of movement and mind with the Chakra System as a base. The Chakras are energies connected to different emotions and are placed in seven different points on the spinal column. Each Chakra is connected to the various organs and glands within the body and are responsible for life energy. Tribal and Electro Dance Beats will inspire and bring complete balance to each participant and will finish with YogaNidra Meditation (the Waking Sleep).
This is for any fitness person looking for an alternative in finding life and energy balance.

This session draws on the celebration of life through movement and visualisation with tribal drum beats and electronic dance music based on balancing the Chakras. You will discover how to release powerful and possibly deep emotions that can limit our beliefs in moving forward in life.
(1) What are Chakras?
(2) What is the system of the Chakras?
(3) How balancing Chakras can balance Body and Mind.

Behind the Smile

66314106_2341089852650890_4713057387030773760_n.jpg

Behind the Smile 2019 is an event not to be missed.

The media has done a pretty good job of raising awareness of mental illness, however equity of funding is not on par with that of physical health and there is a lack of treatment options. All funds raised will be going to the not-for-profit, grassroots organisation Australians for Mental Health. You can read more about them here

One in five Australians aged 16-85 suffer from mental ill health in any one year. Mental illness is the 3rd highest cause of disability in our country, and the rate of death by suicide is almost 3 times the road toll.

The people sharing their experience of mental illness at this years’ event are:

Kathy Kelly - One son was killed after an unprovoked and fatal attack at Sydney's Kings Cross. Four years later their younger son, took his own life. Both boys were 18 years old.

Andrew House - From being homeless and existing only for the next drug, Andrew is now an Alcohol and Other Drug Clinician with The Royal Flying Doctor Service based in Broken Hill.

Elisabeth Shaw - CEO Relationships Australia NSW
Elisabeth is a clinical and counselling psychologist with extensive experience in relationships services.

This powerful event is not to be missed! Real, raw and honest stories of lived experience of mental illness and suicide, to break stigma and bring hope. Funds raised for the not-for-profit organisation, Australians for Mental Health

Tickets include 2 course dinner, drinks, speakers and entertainment by ROCK SOLID. $120 per person or $1000 for a table of 10

Picasso and his dog at Glen Street Theatre

Picasso and his dog at Glen Street Theatre

PICASSO AND HIS DOG photo Jeff Busby_1017.jpg

A wild and adventurous story about Picasso and his naughty sausage dog, Picasso and His Dog, is coming to Glen Street Theatre 29 - 31 August.

Ideal for children aged 4 plus and their families, this delightful show is inspired by a true story. It celebrates the special friendship between the great artist and his dog.

In 1957, an elongated sausage dog called Lump arrived at the villa of the great 20th century artist Pablo Picasso.

Lump looked into the deep brown eyes of Picasso and decided he was home. And so began a great love between a man and his dog - a friendship that spanned 17 years.

But this was more than a friendship as Lump also became an artistic muse for Picasso, appearing in more than 50 of his artworks.

This work is a unique children’s puppet play that combines the art and story of Picasso with the extraordinary poems of Chilean poet Pablo Neruda and the text of Picasso’s contemporary and lifelong friend, Gertrude Stein.

It is a refreshingly original work, wild and adventurous.  Initially set in Picasso’s studio in the South of France, the story travels across time and space in a series of imaginative leaps.

It uses puppetry to transform the detailed set design as the performers play with scale, shadow puppetry, visual illusions, painting and sculpting on stage.

It is hard not to love a trip to the theatre with the little ones, watch their face as they soak up the magic of theatre, puppets and storytelling.

Using puppetry, set transformations and the making of live-art onstage, Picasso and His Dog is a visually stunning and delightfully fun work for all ages.

Dates: Thurs 29, Fri 30 & Sat 31 Aug 10.30am & 1.30pm daily
Price: $23 each | Family (5 tickets) $95 | Kids under 2 free (seated on lap of paying adult) Transaction charges may apply.
