Yaw waY set to open as newest artist-run gallery on the Northern Beaches
Yaw waY is a not for profit, artist run gallery hidden in the depths of Narrabeen RSL. With black walls and spotlights, the gallery is a kooky room full of pipes and air vents. They plan to hold a number of affordable creative workshops this year as well as first aid, short film and DJ classes. All in all, they hope to add to the creative landscape of the Northern Beaches.
Their aim is to hold space for the artists who refuse to play the art gallery game or want to try something different with their works that a general gallery can't provide. They’ve got a bit of a punk vibe and are a bit off centre, and are generally pretty blunt. They care, about real issues, their charity being Orange Sky, who help homeless people throughout Australia, washing their clothes and having a chat. They drive trucks around to give people a shower and help with the basics.
Yaw waY gives 80% of art sales to the artist and 10% to charity with the remainder 10% going to operations.
The space is run for love. They are a small group of musicians and artists
The core group who are running the space is:
MAX MARVEL (local band member MARVEL and painter)
LOUIS LEIMBACH (local band member LIME CORDIALE and COFA graduate / printmaker)
FOSTER DE WAAL (National art student graduate/ painter)
KATIKA SCHULTZ (National art student / printmaker )
The core group will all be exhibiting in this first show as well as some guest artists from Sydney:
We could not do this without the Narrabeen RSL who have been a major support throughout this endeavour. The board and staff have all put in hours of their time to help us along.
Their first show is 6-9pm, Friday 22nd March at 116 Nareen Pde, Narrabeen.
There will be live music by Northern Beaches singer song writer Gabby Dever
As we are licensed premises, Under 18's must be accompanied by an adult and leave by 7pm.
