East Denistone unveils tense, bristling new single in ‘Amongst Taller Trees’

Broody, drenched in texture and teeming with stylistic flair, Sydney’s East Denistone unveils his strongest single yet with ‘Amongst Taller Trees’. As his first release of new music for 2019, East Denistone strikes a chord as the song lands heavy with emotional lyricism against a rich musical tapestry. Built on crashing percussion and a dramatic coupling of guitars and keys, ‘Amongst Taller Trees’ battles between ideas of persistence and one’s creative endgame.
Recorded at Turtlerock Studios in Leichhardt in December, East Denistone (Marcus Hoon) worked with great Sydney talent in bringing his original arrangement to life and adding extra flair to the final product. What the listener is gifted with ‘Amongst Taller Trees’ is a composition that has hints of Radiohead and The National threaded through production and melodies, however in East Denistone’s vocals, dedicated listeners will notice the music’s strong progression (in some ways a departure) from earlier material.
East Denistone’s music has always pulled from influences all around him. ‘Amongst Taller Trees’ indicates maturity and skepticism underlying lofty ideas of success as a musician - the constant push and pull creatives can often have with themselves as the path toward artistic fulfillment and evolution continues to wind and turn. “The song’s about my own persistence when it comes to creating not just music, but a music career, all of it underscored by the question of whether or not it’s all worth it. I’d like to think those themes are quite universal.” East Denistone
Working with Christopher Raicevich and Rick O’Neil on mixing and mastering respectively, had East Denistone and the players on the track in masterful hands; the attention to detail shines through the quality of ‘Amongst Taller Trees’, making the single a defining marker for East Denistone’s building body of work. Remaining curious and open to outside input, the musician admits that he let the creation of the song in studio fly more freely than on previous work.

The new East Denistone sound and live show will be unveiled for a hometown crowd at a highly anticipated show in Sydney on March 29th at the Lady Hampshire in Chippendale. A seasoned live musician, East Denistone’s prowess on stage has continued to flourish over the last year; with 2019 well underway, the artist is ready to take it by the horns with ‘Amongst Taller Trees’ proving his strongest statement piece yet.
